Day 9: A photo you took:

I took this picture while in New York City last spring. It's got kids, and bubbles, and PLAY! in giant playful letters. What's not to love!?

In other news, OMG ALICE I CANNOT HANDLE IT. It took every ounce of my internet ninja skills (I mean, really, I have NEVER had this much trouble finding a download), but I was finally able to watch Part Two, and Sally (my Grinnell Squeebuddy) was with me, and OH MY GOD.

I CANNOT HANDLE HATTER. I REALLY CAN'T. THE ENDING SCENE WITH THE AWKWARD HUG AND THE '"PIZZA..." "...AND OTHER THINGS"' AND THE LONGING LOOKS AND THE "HATTER!" AND THE "I MISSED YOU" AND THE GUH.

OMG YOU GUYS, THE GUH.

I JUST. I REALLY CAN'T TALK ABOUT HOW MUCH I LOVE THIS SHIP. I REALLY, REALLY CAN'T. THEY ARE SO WONDERFUL.

The only thing that really bothered me and Sally was how Alice got progressively weaker as a character throughout. She starts out all badass and "No, this is going too fast, BOUNDARIES, MAN" and then breaking herself out of confinement by using only her own smarts and resourcefulness, and by the middle of Part Two she's going "WHICH MAN SHOULD I FOLLOW!?" >.< Of course, then she redeemed herself after the whole Turning Point (seeing the kids coming out of the mirror) -- going all Kung Fu, stealing and flying the Flamingo (OH MY GOD THE FLAMINGOOOOOOOOOS), freeing the oysters. That redeemed her in my eyes to a suitable level... but I would have preferred if she had either (a) saved Hatter from some kind of grave danger, because SHE OWED HIM for starters, or (b) shot the walrus when it was obvious he was aiming for her, or really had done anything but stand there.

Of course, all of those moments just gave Hatter more opportunity to be heroic and awesome and sweet and DIMPLES, and I really can't complain about that. But still. If one of your big selling points is a headstrong heroine, don't go halvesies on it.
