Good god, I haven't updated in FOREVER. I feel so guilty.....T_T I've neglected my livejournal! Gah!
The play opened and closed faster than I could blink, to rave reviews. The scene I share with Danny was particularly well recieved--we were the last scene, and I got the central bow at the curtain call, and everything. It was a huge honor; I mean, I've never even been in a drama class! And I got so much closer with my drama friends...it was great. <3
Then, one week later (last tuesday) Scovil put up audition sheets for the Winter Play. Now, usually I don't do the Winter Play, because it straddles Finals Week and the end of the Semester, which I usually need to get my grades back up to a worries-free level. However, the winter play we're doing this year is Richard III, by William Shakespeare.
I battled with myself. I really did. I mean, it's SHAKESPEARE! I love Shakespeare with a mad, feverish, frenzied passion, and I've never been in a Shakespeare play. How could I just pass that up?! But the grades are the thing. I was conflicted, but I didn't have a lot of time to contemplate, because auditions were one week later (this last tuesday) and I still had to memorize a new monologue.
So I thought and I thought and I thought, and I figured that some things were just more important than grade security. And the opportunity to be in a Shakespeare production (especially one as prestigious as Richard III) was just not something worth missing. So I memorized Queen Margaret's monologue where she curses everybody, signed up, and wrote clearly on my audition form that I did not want a large role. I spoke with Scovil and told her about my concerns with school, and she totally respects that (she is, after all, a teacher. And even though sometimes she can annoy me to no end, Scovil is pretty cool).
And I made callbacks! They were today, after school. She had me read more of Queen Margaret, which I took to be a good sign. Queen Margaret is a good part, and it's relatively small. So, things are looking up! ^_^ And that means I'll be involved in all three productions this year (because there's NO WAY I'm missing the musical), which is a pretty great feat.
...That is, of course, assuming we're HAVING a musical this year. *headdesk* THEY HAVEN'T ANNOUNCED IT YET! Usually we all know by mid September, and auditions are January/February. It is now December, and we still haven't heard what it's going to be yet. A lot of people are starting to get really tetchy.
But it doesn't really matter to me, ultimately. I'm really happy with where I am now--I can be perfectly happy doing either chorus or sidestage, and I'll be welcomed in either. That means a lot to me; I can be involved now, which is really all I really want in the Musical. Involvement.
People are whispering, of course. A lot of them think he's going to choose a smaller cast production this year, which would be a big deal because our Fine Arts program is absolutely HUGE, and there would be a lot of students, especially Seniors, who wouldn't get a part. 0.0 I can't imagine...ugh. That would be awful.
...Anyway. So I've heard Little Shop of Horrors whispered around a lot, although I can't really take that at face value because NO ONE really knows what's going on. But that would be a fun show, as a sidestage person--can you imagine how many people it would take to operate that plant! ^_^ *drool*

The final cast list for Richard III should be posted tomorrow. Wish me luck! ^_^
