Mar. 4th, 2006 07:43 amThe internet is fixed! *trumpets* On only one computer, but still. I'm not about to complain.
Speech Districts were last night, and I won first for Poetry again! ^_^ That means I'm going to State *yay*. I also finaled in Prose, but I didn't place. The judges loved my delivery for the most part (one judge said my tone was "grating", which I thought was rude, and then she said that even so she loved my delivery. WTF?), but they hated my piece. My piece is WINNIE THE POOH. Who hates WINNIE THE POOH? But they did. They said that it was immature, and that I should pick something more adult and more socially relevant. Then they gave the prize to the girl who read a piece where she gets raped, then pregnant, and nobody believes that she was raped and they disown her.
And I'm like, "You would rather listen to that than Winnie the Pooh?"
Oh, well. I don't understand. But, such is the life of a speechie. Judges can do whatever they want and say whatever they want, and there is absolutely no way to protest it. It's miraculously unfair, but there you go. Most people don't even know that Speech is a sport--they're not about to worry about giving us rights. *sigh*
I think next year, I'm going to do a piece about Peter Pan. I love Peter Pan. If they want me to be adult...screw them. I hate rape (boy, that's quite a statement). I would rather give a piece I love all year than one I hated.
