How did I go from soprano to tenor? o_0
Mar. 7th, 2006 09:31 pm(Okay, so I'm making a concentrated effort here to post more often about my after-school endeavors, especailly since I'll actually have stuff to report now. So, bear with me.)
Today was basically a nothing day, because we're still just doing basic blocking on the scenes. So, for a maid, that basically means just standing around in the background before saying something and moving a few feet in either direction. But hey, I can deal with that. I'm still on a self-confidence high from the past two weeks! But THEN I went to the choir room to practice the Servant's Chorus. Now, I'm a first soprano, along with a bunch of other girls. So, everyone was being shifted around to other parts to even things out, but I was still lucky enough to be left in my proper section. So, I could have just kept my mouth shut, but no. It was then that I realized that there were only TWO MEN in the entire chorus!
Now, I have no idea why this is. 13-odd girls is supposed to be evened out by two tenor boys? We don't even have any bases! Are we supposed to be able to HEAR THEM? So, you know, being the adventurous and righteous person that I am, I offer to Mr. Davis to become a tenor. That was BEFORE I'd realized that I won't be able to reach 1 out of every 10 notes. *headslap*
Luckily, I think they're going to add on more boys. I really have no idea why there are so few--I imagine it's because of costuming. If there are, I'll probably be able to switch back the the soprano section, and melody sweet melody! ^_^ But chances are, I'm just going to stick with being a tenor. I can't leave them now, not on good concience. They're really rather pitiful by themselves. It's tough, though--the sopranos aren't nearly getting enough support on their high notes, it's a bit painful to listen to. It's amazing what a few months of voice lessons has done to me; I'm so much better now than I was before! Jeez, I wish I'd started them ages ago.
("It's just a high B, you sissies! Get some diaphragm in there! Use your nose! YOUR NOOOOSE!")
Excuse me while I go try to figure out how many notes below Middle C I can reach, exactly. Last time I checked, it was four after a proper warm-up. *headdesk*
