I wrote Twilight fic. Yes, I know. But Edward and Bella are so cute and easy to write together. Being themselves. Doing just stuff. I love it.
Title: In the Rain
Rating: completely, totally, entirely child-safe piece of fluff.
Characters: Bella and Edward. Being themselves.
Spoilers: None. Not set for any specific time in the series.
Summary: Inspired by one of my favorite Pieces of Flair buttons on Facebook that says: 'It's raining...Let's dance.'
It was one night, one perfectly ordinary night, and the raining made pattering, clacking, tapping noises as it hit the window in fat, cold drops. Edward watched the small rivers wind their way down Bella's windowpane, holding her in his arms and letting the night go by.
That was the night Bella went the slightest bit crazy.
"Hey," she said, eyes opening slowly and a small grin working its way across her face. "It's raining."
Edward blinked at her and chuckled, nudging her head with his nose. "No need to sound so surprised," he whispered. "It's Forks..."
But she was starting to wriggle out of his grasp. He looked up at her, eyebrow raised in a question.
"Come on," she said, tugging at his hands, smile widening.
"What--"
"Just come on!" she said again, a little more impatiently. So Edward let her lead him by the hand -- past Charlie's room, down the stairs, and out into the pouring rain -- grabbing a rain jacket on their way out so that Bella wouldn't freeze and getting it on her fast enough that she wouldn't complain.
Rain poured down in heavy, fat drops that glistened brightly, reflecting moonlight that had begun to peek its way through quickly retreating clouds. Bella dropped Edward's hand and ran forward, holding her arms out wide and spinning in circles, smiling face turned upward to meet the rain.
Edward stood, watching her with his arms folded across his chest. "You're going to slip," he warned. But he was smiling. She looked so silly, and young, and human. And beautiful. The rain was streaking down her face, leaving shining drops like diamonds in her eyelashes, tracing her cheekbones, dripping off her nose.
"Probably," she agreed, laughing. "And then I'll probably break my leg and you'll have to carry me back to my room."
He moved instantly to her side, tilting her chin up with his hand and smirking down at her. "Probably. Good thing I'm here to keep an eye on you. But would you mind telling me why we're standing out here? In the rain?"
Bella laughed and raised her arms up again, spinning around and grinning bright enough to wake up the sun. "I don't know!"
Edward shook his head and grabbed one of her outstretched hands, pulling her flush against him and snaking his other hand around her waist. "Just felt like putting your life at risk again, was that it?"
Bella grinned and leaned her head against his chest, breathing deeply. "That must have been it. Dancing in the rain, what was I thinking?"
So he held her, and the rain fell down around them in a clacking, pattering, glistening symphony, and they danced. And after awhile, Edward says:
"Now tell me... don't girls always have some kind of fantasy about getting kissed in the rain...?"
