[Percy Jackson] [Percy/Annabeth] A Better Mousetrap

I'm still experimenting, messing around with their characters a bit. I just had this little idea, though, for my un_love_you prompt table. So I'm working on them a bit.

Title: A Better Mousetrap
Prompt: "Prove it." -- un_love_you
Claim: Percy/Annabeth from Percy Jackson and the Olympians
Summary: Percy challenges Annabeth in something he thinks he can win at...in his own fashion.



"I can."

"No, you can't."

"I can!"

"Annabeth," Percy said. "I know that if anyone could build a better mousetrap, it would be you. All I'm saying is that I've got one that's more effective."

"Percy Jackson," Annabeth said, placing her hands on her hips. "Those are fighting words."

He smiled. "Meet me in the Coliseum after dinner. We'll see."

"Bring it on, Seaweed Brain."

Grover was not at all eager to cooperate in what he saw as frivolous animal cruelty, but eventually agreed to obtain a mouse for the pair of them under the condition that the it was only to be *trapped*, and not killed.

After dinner, the three of them met in the Coliseum -- Annabeth with an oddly beautiful, silvery contraption that she set carefully on the ground. Percy came with...

Annabeth scowled. "Percy, is this some kind of joke? Where's your mousetrap?"

He smirked and raised his hands to his shoulders in a defensive gesture. "Show me what you got, Wise Girl." (He still had yet to come up with a better nickname.)

Annabeth rolled her eyes and nodded at Grover, but just as the satyr opened his cupped hands to release the brown fluffball onto the ground, Percy raised his fingers to his mouth...and whistled.

Mrs. O'Leary came bounding out of nowhere, knocking percy to the ground, licking him fiercely in the face, and sending the small brown field mouse running, zipping up Grover's legs to cower trembling in his curly hair. Grover began to burst out laughing, and Percy looked over to Annabeth as he wiped the saliva off his face. "See? I told you. No mice anywhere near here."

Annabeth narrowed her eyes at him. "Trust you to take the brute force method..." she muttered under her breath. But she was smiling.

Oh this was perfect. I can just see Percy's smug look as he tells Annabeth 'I told you.' And much extra squee for Grover and Mrs. O'Leary!
